The Spot truly is a family business, Khalil and Rim are at The Spot every day making sure they are ready for what lies ahead and their gorgeous two year old son Mohammed collects and puts the newspapers in their place each morning at the café.
Khalil grew up watching his mother cook and was always keen to learn. As he grew up he used to push his mum out of the kitchen so he could put his twist on her special recipes. This is where the families love for food came from. The menu is Traditional Australian breakfast with Middle Eastern twist pays homage to traditional dishes – their Mujudara dish which is Grandmas secret recipe! – slow cooked rice with green lentils & authentic middle eastern spices. Topped with camarmelised onion, mint yoghurt, beetroot, haissa, rocket and poached eggs to house made Falafel & Smashed Avocado with house made labne & dukkah with a touch of lime is a hit! For those with a sweet tooth you can’t go past their mouthwatering ricotta hotcakes– A must try!!
The family opened the café in January 2016 after deciding this love for food needed to be taken to the next level, leaving a job in IT, Khalil and Rim set about creating a space that drew the crowds. Creating something new to the area. This is not your typical café – its better!
A feature 5m counter creates a sense of space and their attention to detail and focus on recycled messmate timber stands out. The family hand-picked every timber board!
With most of the goods made from scratch on site using the best produce they can find, included Muffins and Banana bread using organic Terra Madre flour. Using local coffee to soon serving up by Cartel Coffee Roasters you are ensured of a tasty feast!
This Coburg hot spot is one place you need to add to your breakfast bucket list!
