What was once the old Salford Lads Club, and in another era the Red Tulip Easter Egg Factory, Punch Bowl Canteen has transformed the space into a modern café whilst paying homage to the buildings history.

This destination venue is not your typical café, located in the heart of the industrial streets of Port Melbourne (Fennell Street) it is a great escape from the always hectic Bay Street with plenty of space for bikes and prams.

 

Punch Bowl Canteen buzzes during the week with business trade while on weekend its offers locals incredible dishes using the best of the local produce.

 

Head Chef Elisabeth Milroy has previously worked in restaurants across Europe before coming home and becoming the much acclaimed head chef of St. Ali. Milroy’s motto is clear – ‘simple but do it well’. Milroy focuses on accessible food and supports local farmers and their produce to ensure customers are getting the best of what is in season.

 

A custom – made wood fire oven located in the entrance rotates daily with slow cooked meats to add into any of the eight freshly made salads to dine in or take away.

 

House favourites which will soon become yours include the Fish Cake Scotch Egg with radish, pear chard, shaved beetroot salad and the Earl Grey House Tea-Smoked Trout with black bean dressing and poached egg.

 

Catering to intolerances and Vegans, this cafe will put a smile on everyone’s face!
