This old fruit shop in Buckley Street, Essendon has turned into a spacious modern cafe – offering quality food and incredible  coffee, with, and most importantly great service.

Owner and local Waild Hijazi has been on the food scene for 27 years, Hijazi wants to bring something contemporary, progressive and fun to the area for the locals. The cafe was designed using recycled timber ensuring a warm and welcoming feeling. There are also plenty of open space to cater to new mums.

Finding influences in food from Modern Australian, Korean and Vietnamese – there is nothing this cafe doesn’t offer! It also caters for gluten free, vegan with everything locally sourced. A majority of the staff are also local and have an appreciation for the soul of the café, ensuring guests get to enjoy all the café and area have to offer.

Mel, the head barista started the coffee side to the café offering everything from filter to cold drip and using Proud Mary Coffee and their Humbler blend.

The menu is bursting with flavorsome dishes with plenty of variety, their biggest selling dish is the Wild Rice Salad with quinoa, kale, roast carrot, goji corn, turtle beans, herbs, spice tahini yoghurt, avocado and activated almonds (must add a poached egg!). If you are with friends make sure someone orders the Lemon Meringue French Toast – brioche loaf, lemon curd and scorched Italian meringue.

North & Eight also offers yummy take away meals for the ones on the go. On the way out don’t forget to grab their mouthwatering homemade brownies & a Northella Houseshake – chocolate & hazelnut shake topped with a Nutella doughnut!
