34 Willow Avenue, Glen Waverley

Muharam, Sardi, Trei and now 1809. These guys are on a roll with their second venture in Glen Waverly adding another destination to the café scene in Glen Waverly, which before they opened Trei was almost non-existent.

1809 is particularly special to this family run business, 1809 is the birthday of Angie and Maliq Deane’s youngest son Stefan who is differently abled. Stefan’s brother Dimitri came up with the name. Walking in take note of the logo, it’s 1809 in braille.

This café is more than café, famed Sri Lankan architect Murad Ismail helped the guys design their new café over a cup of coffee. This guy is seriously impressive having worked on the design and build of the Four Seasons Maldives Landaa Giraavaru – we want a weekend there!!!

Working with concrete, timber and natural greenery such as the large moss wall which doubles as a piece of art, the long concrete island bench and the tables and flooring throughout this café – this space catches your eye!

The mind blowing colourful menu is mix between comfort and healthy eating – 1809 caters to everyone from Vegans, Paleo to individual food intolerances.

From the flawless blueberry ricotta hotcakes with mascarpone, fresh berries, coconut nectar, macadamia & pistachio crumble to the vegan cashew cheesecake bowl with strawberries, goji berries & pistachio.

There isn’t a dish on the menu you can fault.

Using Niccolo coffee, Prana Chia, Gold Grind & Beetroot lattes the finest produce is utilised. Make sure you save room and indulge on the overwhelming supply of take away sweets and treats on the way out!!
